ORIHUELA - The Regional Government has approved plans to create an Emergency Services Centre on the coast. The contract to commence work on the long-awaited new centre, which will be situated in Orihuela Costa, has now been signed between the Regional Government and local company ‘Construcciones Villegas SL’ to the tune of more than €2 million, and will form part of the special support plan which was introduced to support productive investments during the crisis.

The first stones for the Emergency Services Centre were due to be laid in February of the year, with completion anticipated to take eighteen months. However, delays in the release of funds meant that things were put on hold, with the date of completion being pushed back to the end of 2012. According to the latest bulletin published in the official newsletter ‘Diari Oficial de la Comunitat Valenciana’ (DOCV) the project has been marked as urgent “in order to supply the most appropriate forms of assistance in all situations”.

The 6,000 square metre plot reserved for the project is already owned by the Local Council, and situated in La Zenia, in close proximity to major road links:  the N-332, the AP-7 motorway and the CV-95. The Mayor of Orihuela, Monica Lorente previously commented that this would be the most important emergency services building for the entire Alicante province, and that the City Council is delighted that the Generalitat has selected Orihuela Costa for its foundation
